The story
As the Tapa tell it, an Asante army first came against them and was driven back with stones rolled down from their mountain. A larger army returned. The deciding battle was fought at Frikooso, a low hill about three kilometres north of Tapa Abotoase, by Tapa with Worawora, Buem, Bowiri, Asato and other allies. It was the bloodiest in Tapa history, and the allies won.1
The festival honours the ancestors who fought and died for the land and its freedom.1 The name Tapa itself comes from the flat-topped mountain where they first settled.1
