GhanaNice is an independent project by Augustine Osei, who is responsible for the information described here. Questions or requests: theteam@augustwheel.com.

The short version

We collect only what we need to run the site and to check what people share. We don’t sell it, and we don’t use it for advertising. Your email address is never shown on the site.

What we collect, and why

When you share a place (the tip form): what you found, its name and where it is (or a Google Maps link), what makes it nice, up to three photos, and your name and email. We use these to look the place up, check it, decide whether to publish it, and email you about it. Your photos are shrunk in your browser before they’re sent, which also removes their location data.

When you list a travel service: your business name, what you offer, where you’re based and work, your website or social media page, a description, your name, your email, and your phone number if you give it. We use these to check the business and contact you about the listing.

When you sign up for the newsletter: your email address, which sign-up form you used (the footer, a festival page, the home page or the small card that slides in) and the page you were on, without any search or tracking parameters. We use these only to send you “What’s on in Ghana”, once a month, and to see which forms people use. See The newsletter below.

When you visit: Google Analytics records how the site is used (pages visited, roughly where visitors are, the device and browser) using cookies. You can turn it off below. Our host, Vercel, keeps short-lived technical logs, as every web host does, to keep the site working and secure.

In your browser: the site keeps a copy of the tips you’ve sent in your own browser (without your email), so you can see them marked “Waiting for review”, remembers if you’ve turned analytics off, and remembers whether you’ve signed up for the newsletter or closed its sign-up card (so it doesn’t ask again for 60 days). It also counts the pages you view in a visit, so the card never appears on the first one. These stay on your device.

What gets published

If we publish your tip, the site shows the place, its area and region, what you said about it, your first name (if you gave one), the photos you agreed we could show, and public details about the place from Google Maps (its address link, website, phone and rating). For a travel service, we publish the business name, category, location, coverage, description and website. Your email and phone number are never published.

Who helps us run it

Submissions are handled by an automation server we run ourselves (n8n, hosted with Hetzner) and pass through a few services along the way:

Each of these processes data under its own terms, and some are based outside Ghana.

The newsletter

Added 16 October 2026.

“What’s on in Ghana” is one email a month: the festivals coming up, what’s new on GhanaNice and a tip from a reader. When you sign up, your address goes through our automation server to MailerLite (MailerLite UAB, based in Lithuania), which stores the list and sends the emails. Nothing is added to the list until you confirm: MailerLite first emails you a link, and if you don’t click it, you won’t get the newsletter.

MailerLite records whether you open an issue and which links you click, as most email services do; we use this only to see what readers find useful. We never sell or share the list, and we don’t use it for anything but the newsletter.

To stop it, use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any issue, or email us and we’ll remove you. When you unsubscribe, MailerLite keeps your address marked as unsubscribed so you aren’t emailed again; ask us if you’d like it deleted completely.

How long we keep it

We keep submissions and the review log while the site runs, so we can answer questions about a listing and avoid duplicates. Analytics data is kept for no longer than 14 months. Ask us at any time to see, correct or delete what we hold about you, or to take down something you shared.

Your choices

If this policy changes, we’ll update this page and its date.
